Threads of the Unexplainable

Threads of the Unexplainable is a visual narrative illustration series that explores the sense of fate and uncontrollability within human emotional relationships. These works stem from a simple yet cruel idea: some people’s departure is not caused by a particular event, but rather has been written into the script of destiny from the very beginning.

Each image seeks to convey the psychological responses caught between “predestined beauty” and “inescapable loss,” using visual languages of symbolism, disappearance, and repetition. In this series, encounters are not romantic beginnings from a fairy tale, but quiet manifestations of fate. Love and separation are but two sides of the same coin—the ending is silently inscribed from the very moment it begins.

Fate “缘”

“缘起,我在人群中看到你;缘尽,我看到你在人群中。”

This piece is a meditation on the silent mechanics of fate — how love often carries the seeds of its own parting from the moment it begins.

At the center, two lovers hold each other in a fading embrace. One figure is beginning to dissolve, as if the memory of her is being slowly erased by time. Above them, a reversed clock loops backward — suggesting not progress, but inevitability. That this ending was always there, waiting to be fulfilled.

Beneath them lies a small cat — a remnant of shared life. It stays even as everything else slips away. A quiet witness to the story, and perhaps the only one who remembers.

But what’s most haunting lies just outside the light:

In the darkness beyond the spotlight, dozens more are embracing.

They are shadows, outlines, quiet silhouettes — other stories unfolding at the same time. They too are caught in the beautiful beginning of something already doomed. This is not one story. It is a cycle.

Everyone meets.

Everyone parts.

And perhaps, all beginnings are just quiet rehearsals for the end.

Reflected Farewell

This illustration was inspired by the mirrored nature of reflections—how movements in a mirror always appear reversed.

The sea, like a quiet mirror, holds the same power.

“Reflected Farewell” tells the story of two lovers who, despite deeply loving each other, are about to part ways due to forces beyond their control.

On the day of their farewell, they finally fulfill a promise they made long ago: to see the ocean together.

To see the ocean with the one you love — it should have been a beautiful, joyful moment.

But because of countless delays and unspoken complications, they only managed to fulfill this promise on the day they were about to part.

They stand in silence, facing the sea, holding back what words cannot say.

Yet the water, like a mirror, quietly reflects something reality couldn’t offer—

**In the reflection, they are embraced.**

Maybe it didn’t happen.

Or maybe, it was fate’s final act of kindness.

*As if the sea itself vowed to remember that they once loved.
